Message going back to another brand. I have not had any of the modifications or upgrades performed since I've had it. My brother swore by his Escort Passport. After it finally broke for good he tried my V1 on a drive from J'ville to Orlando and that was all it took. The V1 is bullet proof and you don't have to sweat where you bought it and whether you paid too much, only one supplier and it is upgrade-able. Once you get the Arrows, Signal strength and Signal Count down, you'll like it more. The V1 could have a better mute. I have no experience with the 8500 but I've had Cobra Trapshooters and the early '90's Uniden and they work well to indicate the presence of radar/microwave, but I tended to blame the door openers or I just got sick of their continual noise. The V1 takes the guess work out of determining the probability where you are getting gunned from. The Arrows definitely help you to focus so you're not looking everywhere. My V1 has done wonders to allow me to have a great driving record. I am more conscious of my speed but I still exceed the speed limit though. Make sure you place it in a location that still allows the rear antenna aperature to have a good "view" to the back of the car. You might want to mount it high on the windshield so that other drivers don't ride your tail or worse, in your blind spot, trying to keep up with you because they recognize your V1 or just the fact you have a detector. It bugs me when people do that. Give your V1 time, after a while, you'll hopefully regard it as a wise investment.

Good luck!
